CBS47's Mike Scott visited a mall for this week's Cool School.
You probably don't even know, but inside Manchester Center, there is a school, Crescent View Charter School.
Crescent View is a unique school for students who just don't do well in a traditional classroom.
The students are free to come-and-go as they choose. They set their own hours. They do a lot of school work at home. But they always have access to teachers and tutors when they have questions about what they're studying. "Yes, it's independent study, so a lot of it is, I think it's a great opportunity for students to learn how to be self reliant and taking care, you know, college is very independent study. Nobody's baby sitting you, telling you to go to class everyday," said teacher Justin Debbas.
Student Cherish Clark said, "It's a lot easier. I was doing really bad at Fresno High, cause I wasn't able to focus. There was too many people around, and I wasn't able to get one-on-one time with a teacher. Here, it's a lot easier."
There are lots of success stories at Crescent View.
Principal Rafael Aguilar said, "To us, it's a joy. We're happy and every teacher you see here really enjoys coming to work. We work with these individual students that have, in their life have given up. Sometime their parents have given up and so what we do is we give them some hope."
Congratulations to Crescent View School for giving a lot of kids a second chance at being successful.
