Congratulations to Centerville Elementary School in Sanger, winner of the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award and this week's Cool School.
Centerville School is a little campus in Fresno County and is one of only 254 schools nationwide to win one of the biggest honors in education. They were named a Blue Ribbon School in 2010.
Teachers and dignitaries from as far away as Washington D.C. were on hand to recognize the accomplishment at a ceremony last year.
Centerville Principal, Lisa Houston said, "It is a huge, huge national honor. We are a tight knit family, everybody helps. When you walk onto the campus, you know that you're taken care of, you know you're going to succeed."
Fifth grade teacher Renae Cowings said, "These are my friends and these are my family. Everyone here is a part of my life. Whether it's 10-year-old 5th graders to my neighbors next door, it's just a great place to be and I love coming to work every day."
Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said, "We have law enforcement issues. But when students are brought up and encouraged and taught and given the right role models, it's going to reduce the business that law enforcement has."
Superintendent of Schools Larry Powell said, Every student now knows - they've accomplished the height of designations in schools in America. So they translate it now to personally, they can be the best at anything they try."
Congratulations to Centerville Elementary School in Sanger!
