PG&E will allow customers to opt-out of the SmartMeter program and have their meters read manually, for an additional fee to cover the cost of the service.

PG&E has requested the CPUC to approve analog meters as an additional alternative to receiving a SmartMeter and will likely include an initial fee and a reasonable monthly charge to cover the cost of manual meter reading and associated expenses.
