Several events are taking place over the weekend, leading up to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 16th.

Friday, January 13:
Garlanding Ceremony. Opening Ceremony. Please bring flowers.
Location: Fresno County Courthouse Park (at MLK Bust), 1100 Van Ness Ave, Downtown Fresno, CA.
Time: 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Friday, January 13:
Program begins at 6:30PM. Award Reception Reception to recognize honorees for outstanding service to the community in four categories: Outstanding Organization, Outstanding Youth, Outstanding Female Service, and Outstanding Male Service
Location: Fresno City Hall, 2nd Floor, 2600 Fresno Street, Downtown Fresno, CA.
Time: 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, January 14
Buffet Breakfast served (9:00AM); Program begins at 9:45AM. Community Breakfast. Keynote Speaker: Francine L. Oputa, Director of the Central Valley Cultural Heritage Institute at Fresno State University. Location: Clovis Veterans Memorial Building - 453 Hughes Ave., Clovis. Saturday, January 14:
All Faith Service - Enjoy various beloved spiritual leaders, musical talent and speaker.

Commemoration Program. Celebration of community diversity and culture.
Location: Fresno Veterans Memorial Auditorium, 2426 Fresno St, Fresno, CA

Monday, January 16:
Merced MLK March and Multicultural Celebration
Lt. Col. James C. Warren, Iris Jackson and Bishop Dwight Amy will be the grand marshals of the 16th annual celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Monday Jan. 16. The event will begin at 11 a.m. with a march along Martin Luther King Jr. Way from the Amtrak Depot, 324 W. 24th St., to the Merced County Fairgrounds at 900 MLK Way. A two hour multicultural celebration will be held at the fairgrounds starting at noon. There is no admission charge for the celebration. The event is organized by the MLK Planning Committee and sponsored by the City of Merced and the City Recreation Division.

Sat-Mon, January 14-16:
Free entrance to National Parks
All 397 national parks across the country (including Yosemite and Sequoia/Kings Canyon in Central California) will offer free admission from Saturday, January 14 through Monday, January 16 to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
