Curtis Johnson has been in and out of a wheelchair for 2 years, and it hasn't been easy.

"The way they look at me at outings, it took a toll after a while," Curtis Johnson said.

But that will soon change; all thanks to a new segway that Segs4Vets program awarded him.

"It will help me keep up with my family and doing family outings that I haven't been able to do in the past," Johnson said.

Johnson is just one of over 1,100 wounded veterans that struggle with mobility issues and now rely on Segways to get around, a device that makes interacting with people a lot easier.

"They're not looking at me trying to figure out what's wrong with me. They're side tracked by the device," Johnson said.

To many injured vets, it's more than just a high tech device.

"The whole perception of life changes when you're on a Segway," Jerry Kerr said.

You can help veterans with injuries or serious disabilities. Segs4Vets provides qualified candidates with Segways to help them get around. The devices are currently not available through their benefits package. Click the related link if you'd like to donate - or see if you qualify for a Segway.
