Every Sunday evening at 6 p.m., CBS 47 airs Stories of Service, featuring Valley veterans of World War II.

The aim is to preserve as many unique perspectives on history from those who lived in one of the world’s most turbulent times, before those eyewitnesses are no longer here to share those memories. Winner of an Edward R. Murrow Award (Region 2) for Best News Series in 2007, and awarded Best Multi-Part Series for all television stations in Northern California and Nevada in 2006 by the Radio and Television News Directors Association (RTNDA), Stories of Service has also been nominated for a Regional Emmy Award for Community Service.

Through our coverage, we also hope to promote the nationwide efforts of the Stories of Service project, which matches volunteers, many of whom come from the "Latest Generation" of today's high school students, with members of the "Greatest Generation." The teenagers learn history first-hand, not to mention computer video editing, as they work with veterans to turn their stories into mini-documentaries. The oral history interviews are then preserved in the Library of Congress.
