Chargers running back Ryan Mathews wasn't happy with only carrying the ball nine times in a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
That's a season-low for the former first-round pick out of Fresno State.
“I would (like more carries). That’s me," said Mathews earlier this week. "But, I’m going to do whatever I can and do whatever I’m asked for the team. Whether that’s two carries or 25 carries, no matter what it is. I’m going to try to make the most of my opportunities and help the team win.”
Mathews finished the game with just 26 rushing yards, also a season-low, and he did not score a touchdown for the seventh game in a row.
For the season, Mathews has rushed for 620 yards and one touchdown, numbers far below his 2011 Pro Bowl year (1,091 rush yds, 6 TDs).
Granted, Mathews has been dealing with injuries. The Chargers play at Pittsburgh this Sunday.
