It's no secret that Fresno State players have had success in the NFL, and that's a trend that Tim DeRuyter expects to continue during his tenure with the Bulldogs.
On Wednesday, one scout from the St. Louis Rams and one from the Washington Redskins were spotted at the Bulldogs' afternoon practice. The Kansas City Chiefs were represented at practice earlier in the week.
"Look at our current players in the NFL," said head coach Tim DeRuyter on Wednesday, three days before the season opener against Weber State. "I think we've got about 23 current NFL players. NFL scouts know that there's gonna be good football players here. So we absolutely welcome NFL scouts to come to our practices so they can see our players. I think we put our players in positions that are gonna directly translate to what the National Football League's looking at.
"Part of our recruiting pitch is, 'come to Fresno State if you want to play in the National Football League' and obviously as evidenced by the scouts coming here, they know where they can find some guys. And we'll continue to foster those relationships."
